Overview

huJ199 (also known as hu199) is a humanized monoclonal antibody developed by Mapp Biopharmaceutical and its commercial arm, LeafBio, for the treatment of Junin virus infection, the causative agent of Argentine hemorrhagic fever (AHF). huJ199 is derived from the murine monoclonal antibody J199 (clone GB-03-BE08) and its chimeric precursor cJ199. It specifically targets the glycoprotein complex (GPC) on the surface of the Junin virus, particularly the GP1 subunit, blocking its interaction with the host cell receptor, transferrin receptor protein 1 (TfR1). This blockade prevents viral entry and replication, neutralizing the virus. In preclinical studies, huJ199 has demonstrated high neutralizing potency and complete protective efficacy in animal models, including guinea pigs and non-human primates, even when administered several days post-infection.
