Overview

**Human adipose-derived mesenchymal progenitor cells** are multipotent stromal cells isolated from adult human adipose (fat) tissue, typically from lipoaspirate collected during elective liposuction procedures[1][2][4]. These cells—often referred to as adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (AdMSCs or ASCs)—can differentiate into multiple lineages, including chondrogenic (cartilage), osteogenic (bone), adipogenic (fat), and neural lineages[1][2]. They are characterized by robust proliferation capacity, strong immunomodulatory activity, and potent paracrine effects through secretion of growth factors such as VEGF, HGF, FGF, NGF, and IL-10[4]. Their primary mechanism of action is the promotion of tissue repair and regeneration via differentiation and trophic (paracrine) support—including immunomodulation and stimulation of endogenous repair mechanisms[2][3]. These cells are widely investigated in regenerative medicine for applications including autoimmune diseases, neurodegenerative conditions, wound healing, musculoskeletal and orthopedic disorders, and metabolic disease research[1][2]. Clinical and preclinical studies are ongoing to evaluate their safety and efficacy.
