Human adipose mesenchymal stem cell injection is an autologous or allogeneic cell therapy product consisting of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) harvested from adipose tissue. These cells possess potent immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, and pro-angiogenic properties, making them a candidate for treating fibrotic and autoimmune conditions. In the context of systemic sclerosis (SSc), the therapy is administered via local injection into hand skin lesions to alleviate skin thickening and improve microcirculation. The treatment aims to modulate the local immune response and inhibit the overactivation of fibroblasts, which are responsible for the excessive collagen deposition characteristic of the disease. A Phase 1 trial sponsored by Beijing Union Medical College Hospital is currently evaluating the safety and preliminary efficacy of this local injection in adults with systemic sclerosis.
