Human allogeneic adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stromal cells (ADMSCs) are an investigational cell therapy being developed by Masarykova univerzita (Masaryk University) for the treatment of epidermolysis bullosa congenita, specifically the recessive dystrophic form (RDEB). These cells are isolated from the adipose tissue of healthy allogeneic donors and administered via intradermal injection. The therapeutic mechanism is primarily paracrine, involving the secretion of various growth factors and cytokines that promote tissue repair, modulate the immune response, and reduce inflammation at the site of skin lesions. By addressing the underlying inflammatory environment and supporting the regenerative capacity of the skin, ADMSCs aim to improve wound healing and reduce the severity of skin fragility in patients with COL7A1 mutations.
