Human allogeneic umbilical cord blood mononuclear cells (hUCB-MNCs) are a therapeutic cell population derived from the blood of the umbilical cord following childbirth. This heterogeneous mixture includes hematopoietic stem cells, mesenchymal progenitor cells, and various immune cells such as T cells, B cells, and natural killer cells. hUCB-MNCs are investigated for their ability to promote tissue regeneration and exert immunomodulatory effects through the secretion of anti-inflammatory cytokines and growth factors (paracrine signaling). Clinical applications include the treatment of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) in neonates and refractory kidney diseases, where they aim to reduce fibrosis, inflammation, and oxidative stress.
