Overview

Human amnion epithelial stem cells (hAESC) are a type of stem cell derived from the amniotic membrane, currently being investigated by Indonesia University (Universitas Indonesia) for the treatment of infertility caused by a thin endometrium. This regenerative medicine approach involves the isolation of hAESC from donor amniotic membranes, which are then seeded onto an amnion bilayer biological graft. This construct is transplanted into the patient's uterus to promote the regeneration and recovery of the endometrial lining. The hAESC are characterized by pluripotency markers such as Oct 3/4, Nanog, SSEA-4, and TRA-1-60, and are selected for being HLA-DR negative to minimize the risk of immune rejection. The therapy aims to restore endometrial thickness and receptivity, potentially improving implantation rates in patients with permanent endometrial scarring or thinness.
