This investigational cell therapy consists of human natural killer (NK) cells genetically engineered to express a chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) targeting B-cell maturation antigen (BCMA). Developed by Hrain Biotechnology Co., Ltd., the therapy is designed to treat relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma and plasma cell leukemia. BCMA is a protein highly expressed on the surface of malignant plasma cells, making it a primary target for immunotherapy in these indications. Unlike traditional CAR-T cell therapies, CAR-NK cells are intended to be used as an 'off-the-shelf' allogeneic product, potentially offering advantages such as a lower risk of cytokine release syndrome (CRS) and graft-versus-host disease (GvHD). The product is currently being evaluated in an early Phase 1 clinical trial to assess its safety, tolerability, and preliminary efficacy.
