Human CD19-CD22 targeted T cells is a bispecific chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy developed by Shanghai Henlius Biotech for the treatment of B-cell malignancies, specifically B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL). The therapy involves genetically modifying a patient's autologous T cells to express a CAR that simultaneously targets two distinct tumor-associated antigens, CD19 and CD22, which are commonly expressed on B-cell leukemia cells. This dual-targeting approach is intended to overcome antigen escape, a common mechanism of resistance in single-target CAR-T therapies where tumor cells downregulate one antigen to evade immune detection. By targeting both CD19 and CD22, the therapy aims to provide more robust and durable clinical responses. Development reached Phase 1 clinical trials (NCT04007029) but was subsequently terminated by the developer for strategic reasons.
