Overview

Human cord blood mononuclear cells (hCBMNCs) are a heterogeneous population of immune and progenitor cells isolated from human umbilical cord blood. They include lymphocytes, monocytes, hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells, and other cell types. hCBMNCs are being investigated as a cell therapy for various conditions due to their regenerative and immunomodulatory properties. Preclinical studies have shown that transplantation of hCBMNCs can protect against cisplatin-induced acute kidney injury by suppressing high mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) expression and preventing apoptosis in renal tissues[1][5][6]. Clinical trials are also exploring their use in treating refractory diabetic foot ulcers[2][3] and right ventricular failure in congenital heart disease[4]. The mechanism of action is thought to involve modulation of inflammation, reduction of apoptosis, and promotion of tissue repair.
