Overview
CMV Ig (cytomegalovirus immunoglobulin) is a purified, sterile, plasma-derived hyperimmune globulin preparation containing high titers of immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies directed against cytomegalovirus (CMV). Derived from pooled human plasma of donors selected for high anti-CMV antibody levels, CMV Ig provides immediate passive immunity to prevent or attenuate CMV infection and disease. It is primarily indicated for the prophylaxis of CMV disease in high-risk solid organ transplant recipients (such as kidney, liver, lung, pancreas, and heart transplants) and bone marrow transplant recipients, often used in combination with antiviral therapies like ganciclovir. It is also utilized as an adjunctive treatment for established, severe CMV infections, such as CMV pneumonitis.
