Overview

Human embryonic stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes (hESC-CMs) are an investigational cell therapy product consisting of functional cardiac muscle cells differentiated from human embryonic stem cells. Developed for the treatment of chronic ischemic heart disease, these cells are intended to be transplanted directly into the myocardium to replace lost or damaged tissue, promote remuscularization, and improve overall cardiac function and left ventricular ejection fraction. The HECTOR trial (NCT04396899), led by Joseph C. Wu at Stanford University, is a Phase I study evaluating the safety and feasibility of hESC-CM transplantation in patients with chronic ischemic left ventricular dysfunction secondary to myocardial infarction.
