Human fibrin sealant is a plasma-derived biologic product used as a topical hemostat and tissue adhesive. It consists of two primary components: human fibrinogen and human thrombin, which are typically supplied in a kit and mixed at the point of application. Upon mixing, thrombin enzymatically converts fibrinogen into fibrin, mimicking the final stage of the natural blood coagulation cascade to form a stable, insoluble fibrin clot. This clot adheres to the wound surface, providing rapid hemostasis, sealing tissues, and creating a scaffold for wound healing. Developed by companies such as Guangdong Shuanglin Bio-Pharmaceutical, it is utilized in various surgical settings, including minimally invasive orthopedic surgery, to control bleeding where conventional surgical techniques are insufficient.
