Overview

Human heterologous liver cells are a type of stem cell derived from adult human liver donors for therapeutic use in others. These cells are isolated from healthy human livers and can be cryopreserved for later infusion. When administered via the portal vein, they can temporarily improve liver function in patients with metabolic disorders such as urea cycle disorders (UCDs). The cells demonstrate the ability to improve hyperammonemia and ureagenesis in individuals with severe UCDs, potentially serving as a bridge therapy until liver transplantation can be performed.
