Overview

Human lactoferrin peptide 1-11 (hLF1-11) is a synthetic antimicrobial peptide (AMP) consisting of the first 11 N-terminal amino acids (GRRRRSVQWCA) of human lactoferrin. Developed by AM-Pharma, it was designed to prevent and treat life-threatening bacterial and fungal infections in immunocompromised patients, specifically those undergoing haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) with neutropenia. The peptide exhibits broad-spectrum activity against multidrug-resistant pathogens, including MRSA and fluconazole-resistant Candida albicans. Its mechanism of action involves the inhibition of myeloperoxidase (MPO), which modulates the inflammatory response and enhances microbial killing. Clinical development reached Phase 1/2 trials for bacteremia and candidemia, but the program was ultimately discontinued.
