Overview

Human menopausal gonadotrophin (hMG) is a biologic medication derived from the urine of postmenopausal women, containing both follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH). It is primarily used to treat infertility in women by stimulating ovarian follicular growth, maturation, and ovulation. In men, it is used to stimulate spermatogenesis in cases of hypogonadism. hMG acts by binding to FSH and LH receptors on granulosa and theca cells in the ovary or Leydig cells in the testes, promoting gamete development and steroidogenesis. The drug has been widely used for controlled ovarian stimulation protocols in assisted reproductive technologies such as IVF[1][2][4][5][6][7].
