Overview

Human Papillomavirus 16 E6 and E7 peptides are therapeutic peptides derived from the E6 and E7 oncoproteins of Human Papillomavirus type 16 (HPV-16). These oncoproteins are constitutively expressed in HPV-associated cells and are essential for the development and maintenance of the malignant phenotype in HPV-related cancers. The peptides function as antigens, designed to stimulate a T-cell mediated immune response. Upon administration, they are taken up and processed by antigen-presenting cells, which then present viral epitopes to the host immune system. This process aims to activate both cytotoxic T-lymphocytes (CTLs) and helper T cells, leading to the destruction of HPV E6/E7-expressing tumor cells and a reduction in tumor growth. These peptides are being investigated as a therapeutic vaccine approach for various HPV-associated cancers, including cervical cancer and oropharyngeal cancers.
