Overview

Human papillomavirus type 45 L1 capsid protein antigen is a recombinant viral-like particle (VLP) derived from the major capsid (L1) protein of HPV type 45. It is produced in Saccharomyces cerevisiae and self-assembles into VLPs that mimic the structure of native HPV but lack viral DNA, making them non-infectious. This antigen is a component of the Gardasil 9 vaccine, which provides immunization against diseases caused by HPV type 45—including cervical cancer and other anogenital cancers—by inducing neutralizing antibodies that prevent infection with this virus subtype[1][5][7]. The primary mechanism is to stimulate an immune response against HPV-45 through presentation of the L1 VLPs.
