Overview

Human papillomavirus type 6 L1 capsid protein antigen is a recombinant viral protein used as an active component in prophylactic vaccines against human papillomavirus (HPV), such as Gardasil and Gardasil 9. The antigen is the major capsid (L1) protein of HPV type 6, produced using recombinant DNA technology in yeast (*Saccharomyces cerevisiae*) or *E. coli*. The purified L1 proteins self-assemble into noninfectious virus-like particles (VLPs) that mimic the structure of native virions but lack viral DNA. These VLPs elicit a strong immune response by inducing neutralizing antibodies against HPV, thereby preventing infection and associated diseases such as genital warts and cervical cancer precursors caused by vaccine-included types[1][5][4]. The primary indication is immunization for prevention of diseases caused by specific HPV types.
