Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Human placenta biological preparation refers to therapeutic products derived from processed human placental tissue. These preparations may include extracts or processed forms containing a complex mixture of bioactive substances such as proteins, peptides (including low molecular weight peptides), enzymes, nucleic acids (e.g., polydeoxyribonucleotide), amino acids, vitamins, and trace elements[3][8]. Historically and in some modern alternative practices, these preparations have been used for a variety of indications including stimulation of immunity, wound healing promotion, reduction of skin pigmentation disorders (such as melasma), gynecological conditions (e.g., infertility), general weakness and fatigue recovery[3][8]. The mechanism of action is not fully elucidated but is thought to involve immunomodulation and tissue repair via the bioactive components present in the extract[3][8]. There is no robust clinical evidence supporting efficacy for any indication. Human placenta-derived products are regulated as biologicals in many jurisdictions due to potential risks including transmission of infectious agents[2][9].
