Human placenta-derived 3D mesenchymal stem cells (3D MSCs) is an investigational cell therapy developed by the Chinese PLA General Hospital for the treatment of acute ischemic stroke. Unlike traditional 2D-cultured MSCs, these cells are grown in a three-dimensional environment, which is intended to better mimic the physiological niche and enhance therapeutic properties such as paracrine secretion and survival. Administered intravenously, the therapy aims to mitigate brain injury by suppressing microglial activation and reducing neuroinflammation. It is currently being evaluated in Phase I/IIa clinical trials to assess safety and preliminary efficacy in the acute phase of stroke.
