Overview

Human placenta mesenchymal stromal cells (hPMSCs) are an allogeneic cell-based biologic therapy derived from various regions of the human placenta, including the chorionic villi, amniotic membrane, and decidua. These multipotent cells function primarily through paracrine mechanisms, secreting a variety of pro-regenerative, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory factors rather than through direct tissue replacement. hPMSCs are being investigated for a wide range of conditions, including Crohn's disease, thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy, Duchenne muscular dystrophy, acute kidney injury, and hematopoietic disorders. They offer advantages over other mesenchymal stromal cell (MSC) sources due to their non-invasive collection, high expansion potential, and low immunogenicity. Specific products like PLX-R18 utilize a 3D bioreactor-based manufacturing system to expand these cells for clinical use.
