Human placental-derived stem cells are an investigational, allogeneic placental cell therapy prepared from donated full-term human placentas through a proprietary perfusion and cell-processing procedure. The product contains hematopoietic and non-hematopoietic stem and progenitor-cell populations, is low in T-cell content, and has relatively low HLA class I and class II expression. It has been administered as an HLA-independent facilitator cell product alongside allogeneic umbilical cord blood transplantation, with the intended biological role of supporting hematopoietic engraftment and immune reconstitution after transplant. New York Medical College conducted the completed Phase 1 NCT01586455 study in malignant hematologic disorders and inherited non-malignant conditions requiring stem-cell transplantation.
