Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Human rabies immune globulin + rabies vaccine** is a combination used for post-exposure prophylaxis following suspected exposure to rabies in individuals without prior vaccination. Human rabies immune globulin (HRIG) provides immediate, passive antibodies against the rabies virus, neutralizing the pathogen at the wound site until the body mounts its own immune response. The rabies vaccine triggers active antibody production, conferring long-term immunity. The immune globulin is administered infiltrated around the wound and any remainder intramuscularly, while the vaccine is given intramuscularly at a separate anatomical site. This combination is the recommended standard of care for post-exposure prophylaxis in non-immunized persons and immunocompromised patients[2][3][6].
