Overview

Human umbilical cord blood-derived exosomes are extracellular vesicles isolated from the cord blood of healthy donors. These nano-sized vesicles serve as mediators of intercellular communication, carrying a complex cargo of proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids, including microRNAs. In the context of dry eye disease, these exosomes are being investigated for their potential anti-inflammatory and regenerative properties. They are hypothesized to modulate the ocular surface microenvironment, reduce inflammation, and promote the repair of corneal epithelial cells, thereby improving tear film stability and alleviating symptoms of dry eye. The research is currently in the preclinical stage, with studies conducted by Xi'an NO.1 Hospital.
