Overview

Human umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cell apoptotic vesicle eye drops are an experimental biologic therapy developed for the treatment of refractory dry eye disease. The product consists of apoptotic vesicles (ApoVs), which are a subtype of extracellular vesicles released by mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) during programmed cell death. These vesicles are enriched with bioactive proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids that possess potent immunomodulatory and regenerative properties. When applied topically to the eye, they are intended to suppress ocular surface inflammation, protect and promote the repair of the corneal epithelium, and restore tear film stability. The therapy is currently being evaluated in clinical trials sponsored by Shenzhen Eye Hospital to assess its safety and efficacy in patients who have failed conventional dry eye treatments.
