Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Human umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells (UC-MSCs) is an investigational cell therapy developed by Puren Hospital Affiliated to Wuhan University of Science and Technology for the treatment of COVID-19 pneumonia. These allogeneic, non-hematopoietic stem cells possess potent immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, and tissue-regenerative properties. When administered intravenously, UC-MSCs are thought to home to the lungs and secrete a variety of bioactive factors (paracrine signaling) that suppress the overactive immune response (cytokine storm) and promote the repair of damaged alveolar tissue, thereby improving respiratory function in severely ill patients.
