Overview

Human umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells (UC-MSCs) from Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University is an investigational cell therapy being developed for the treatment of compensated hepatitis B-related liver cirrhosis. These multipotent adult stem cells are harvested from the Wharton's jelly of the umbilical cord and administered via intravenous infusion. The therapy is designed to reverse or delay the progression of cirrhosis through multiple mechanisms, including immunomodulation, anti-inflammatory effects, and anti-fibrotic properties. It works by modulating the liver microenvironment through paracrine mechanisms—secreting cytokines and growth factors—and by regulating the activation of hepatic stellate cells to reduce fibrosis and improve overall liver function.
