Overview

Human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomes (hUC-MSC-Exos) with long non-coding RNA-9969 (lncRNA-9969) knockdown are specialized extracellular vesicles used to investigate the molecular mechanisms of stem cell-based therapies in Alzheimer's disease. Research indicates that lncRNA-9969 is a critical component of the hUC-MSC exosomal cargo, providing neuroprotection by modulating microglial dysfunction, reducing neuroinflammation, and enhancing neuronal autophagy. By specifically knocking down lncRNA-9969, these modified exosomes serve as a research tool to demonstrate that the therapeutic efficacy of MSC-exosomes against Alzheimer's pathology—including lipid dyshomeostasis and pyroptosis—is dependent on this specific long non-coding RNA. This agent is currently in the preclinical development stage for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases.
