Human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cell (HUCMSC) secretome is a cell-free therapeutic product derived from the conditioned media of mesenchymal stem cells harvested from human umbilical cord tissue. It comprises a complex cocktail of bioactive paracrine factors, including cytokines, chemokines, growth factors, and extracellular vesicles (such as exosomes). The secretome acts as an immunomodulatory and neuroprotective agent by modulating the inflammatory microenvironment—specifically reducing pro-inflammatory cytokines like IL-6 and TNF-alpha—and providing trophic support for tissue regeneration. As a cell-free alternative to live stem cell therapy, it offers advantages in safety, standardization, and reduced risk of immunogenicity or tumorigenicity. It is currently being investigated in clinical trials for neurological conditions, including moderate dementia and drug-resistant epilepsy.
