Overview

HUC-MSCs (Human Umbilical Cord Mesenchymal Stem Cells) is an investigational cell therapy developed by the Chinese Academy of Sciences for the treatment of primary ovarian insufficiency (POI). The therapy involves the intraovarian transplantation of mesenchymal stem cells derived from human umbilical cord tissue. These cells function primarily through paracrine mechanisms, secreting growth factors such as vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGFA) to restore ovarian function. The treatment aims to reduce apoptosis in ovarian granulosa and theca interstitial cells, alleviate excessive autophagy, and promote tissue repair via the PI3K/AKT/mTOR and NR4A1-mediated mitochondrial pathways. Clinical evaluation has focused on safety and efficacy in women aged 20-40, often in combination with hormone replacement therapy.
