Human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (hUC-MSCs) are multipotent stromal cells isolated from umbilical cord tissue. In a clinical program led by TC Erciyes University, these cells are being investigated for regenerative endodontic treatment in pediatric patients with apical periodontitis and necrotic open apex molar teeth. The therapeutic approach involves placing the hUC-MSCs into disinfected root canals to promote revascularization and the regeneration of pulp-like tissue, aiming to resolve periapical lesions and allow for continued root development. These cells leverage their immunomodulatory and regenerative properties to provide a biological alternative to traditional apexification or root canal treatments.
