Human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (hUC-MSCs) are multipotent stromal cells derived from the Wharton's jelly of the human umbilical cord. Developed by Shenzhen Hornetcorn Bio-technology, these cells are being investigated for the treatment of pneumoconiosis, a chronic occupational lung disease characterized by inflammation and progressive fibrosis due to mineral dust inhalation. The therapeutic mechanism of hUC-MSCs involves their ability to home to injured lung tissue and exert immunomodulatory and anti-fibrotic effects through paracrine signaling. By secreting various bioactive factors, such as anti-inflammatory cytokines and growth factors, hUC-MSCs aim to suppress chronic pulmonary inflammation and inhibit the activation of myofibroblasts, potentially slowing the progression of lung scarring and improving respiratory function. The product is currently undergoing Phase I clinical evaluation to assess its safety and preliminary efficacy in this patient population.
