Overview

This investigational cell therapy consists of human umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells (UC-MSCs) isolated from Wharton's jelly of healthy donors. Developed by Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University, it is being evaluated for the treatment of diabetic nephropathy in patients with type 2 diabetes. The therapy is administered via peripheral intravenous infusion and exerts its therapeutic effects through multiple mechanisms, including anti-inflammatory, anti-fibrotic, and immunomodulatory actions. By targeting renal inflammation, fibrosis, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition, the UC-MSCs aim to preserve renal function and reduce proteinuria in patients with chronic kidney damage resulting from diabetes.
