Human umbilical cord tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells (UC-MSCs) are an allogeneic cell therapy being developed by Translational Biosciences for the treatment of osteoarthritis, specifically targeting the knee. These cells are isolated from the umbilical cord tissue and are known for their multipotency and significant immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties. When administered intravenously or intra-articularly, UC-MSCs are thought to migrate to the site of joint damage and release a variety of bioactive molecules, including cytokines and growth factors, which help to reduce synovial inflammation and potentially stimulate the repair of damaged cartilage.
