Overview

Human urine-derived stem cells (USCs or UDSCs) are a population of adult stem cells isolated noninvasively from human urine. These cells exhibit high proliferative capacity and multidirectional differentiation potential similar to mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), including the ability to differentiate into osteogenic, adipogenic, and chondrogenic lineages. USCs are telomerase-positive and can be expanded in vitro for use in regenerative medicine. Their paracrine effects and immunomodulatory properties make them promising candidates for cell-based therapies targeting tissue repair and regeneration. Applications under investigation include chronic kidney disease therapy, skin wound healing, musculoskeletal repair (bone/cartilage), genitourinary regeneration, and potentially as biological models for pharmacology/toxicology testing[1][3][4][5][6][7][8]. The collection process is simple, low-cost, safe, and noninvasive compared to other sources of adult stem cells.
