Overview

The humanized anti-VEGF monoclonal antibody (specifically the candidate LZ01) is a bevacizumab biosimilar developed by Beijing Green Bamboo Biotechnology. It is a recombinant humanized IgG1 monoclonal antibody designed to bind to and neutralize vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), a critical protein that stimulates angiogenesis (the formation of new blood vessels). By blocking the interaction of VEGF with its receptors (VEGFR-1 and VEGFR-2) on the surface of endothelial cells, the antibody inhibits the proliferation of tumor vasculature, thereby starving the tumor of the blood supply necessary for growth and metastasis. This therapeutic candidate is primarily being evaluated for the treatment of metastatic colorectal cancer and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), with clinical studies focusing on demonstrating pharmacokinetic similarity and safety compared to the reference product, Avastin.
