HuMax-HepC is a fully human monoclonal antibody developed by Genmab A/S for the prevention and treatment of Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. Originally isolated from a patient with mild chronic hepatitis, the antibody targets a conformational epitope on the envelope protein 2 (E2) of the Hepatitis C virus. E2 is a critical surface protein involved in viral attachment and entry into host hepatocytes. By binding to E2, HuMax-HepC potently neutralizes the virus and prevents infection. Pre-clinical studies demonstrated broad cross-reactivity across multiple HCV genotypes and significant efficacy in humanized mouse models, where it prevented infection in the majority of treated subjects. Development of the candidate was ultimately discontinued by Genmab.
