HUNS001-01 is an autologous bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cell (BMSC) therapy developed for the treatment of ischemic stroke. The cells are harvested from the patient's own bone marrow and cultured using allogeneic human platelet lysate as a growth medium, avoiding the use of fetal bovine serum. A distinguishing feature of HUNS001-01 is its labeling with superparamagnetic iron oxide (SPIO), which allows for non-invasive longitudinal monitoring of cell migration and engraftment using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The therapy is administered via stereotactic intracerebral transplantation into the peri-infarct area. It is intended to promote neurological recovery in patients with subacute or chronic stroke sequelae through paracrine signaling, neuroprotection, and the facilitation of neural circuit remodeling.
