Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Huo Xue Tong Luo Decoction is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal topical wash being investigated for the relief and prevention of oxaliplatin-induced peripheral neuropathy (OIPN) in patients with gastrointestinal cancers. Developed in the context of clinical research at Western Sydney University, the formulation is based on the TCM therapeutic principle of activating blood circulation and dredging collaterals (Huo Xue Tong Luo). As a botanical decoction, it consists of a complex mixture of herbal ingredients applied externally as a soak. The therapy aims to mitigate the neurotoxic effects of chemotherapy agents like oxaliplatin, which often cause significant sensory impairment and pain in cancer patients.
