Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Huoling Shengji Granules (HLSJ) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula developed for the treatment of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). It is specifically indicated for patients diagnosed with the TCM syndrome of spleen qi deficiency and kidney yang deficiency. The formula consists of six herbal ingredients: Radix Astragali, Epimedium herb, Radix Rehmanniae, Fructus Corni, Atractylodes macrocephala Koidz, and Poria cocos. Preclinical studies in SOD1G93A mouse models have demonstrated that HLSJ can prolong survival, prevent motor neuron loss in the spinal cord, inhibit glial cell activation, and suppress inflammatory responses. The drug is currently being evaluated in Phase II clinical trials in China, comparing its efficacy and safety to riluzole using measures such as the ALSFRS-R and ROADS scales.
