Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Huopu Xialing Tang is a classic traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula originating from the book Gan Zheng Ji Yao. It is composed of multiple herbal ingredients including Huo Xiang (Agastache rugosa), Hou Po (Magnolia officinalis), Jiang Ban Xia (Pinellia ternata processed with ginger), Fu Ling (Poria cocos), Xing Ren (Prunus armeniaca seed), raw Yi Yi Ren (Coix lacryma-jobi seed), Bai Dou Kou (Amomum kravanh or Amomum villosum fruit), Zhu Ling (Polyporus umbellatus sclerotium), Dan Dou Chi (fermented soybean), Ze Xie (Alisma orientale rhizome) and Tong Cao (Tetrapanax papyriferus pith)[2][1]. The formula is traditionally used to relieve exterior syndrome and resolve dampness by promoting diuresis, harmonizing the middle energizer, dispersing external pathogens, drying dampness, activating the spleen and promoting lung qi flow[2][5]. Modern clinical applications include treatment of digestive disorders such as chronic gastritis and diarrhea after cholecystectomy[4][5], respiratory diseases including influenza-like illnesses[6], COVID-19 recovery support[3], as well as broader use in endocrine and nervous system disorders where dampness-heat or damp obstruction are considered pathogenic factors in TCM theory[5]. The mechanism of action involves synergistic effects on resolving "dampness"—a TCM concept corresponding to fluid retention/edema—and supporting immune function.
