Overview
Huoxiang Suling Shuanghua Decoction (HSSD) is a multi-herbal Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation developed for the prevention and treatment of respiratory viral infections, including influenza and as an adjunct to COVID-19 vaccination. It consists of a mixture of 15 traditional Chinese medicinal herbs in specific weight ratios, including Pogostemodis Herba, Moslae Herba, Polygonati Rhizoma, Perillae Folium, Tsaoko Fructus, Poria, Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium, Radix Fici Hirtae, Platycodonis Radix, Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens (fresh ginger), Jujubae Fructus (jujube), Lonicerae Japonicae Flos (honeysuckle flower), Eriobotryae Folium (loquat leaf), Mori Folium (mulberry leaf), and Raphani Semen. Preclinical studies indicate that HSSD exerts anti-influenza effects by modulating immune signaling pathways such as TLR4/CD14/MyD88/NF-kB p65 and enhancing adaptive immunity. Clinical trials have shown that oral administration of HSSD can boost immunogenicity following SARS-CoV-2 vaccination by increasing serum anti-RBD IgG titers and promoting T cell responses[1][2][4].
