Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Huoxin Pill (活心丸) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) preparation used for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, primarily coronary heart disease and angina pectoris. [3, 10] It is composed of multiple ingredients including ginseng, red flower, artificial musk, and borneol. [3, 4] The medicine is based on the TCM principle of "tonifying qi and activating blood circulation, warming meridians to unblock vessels". [2, 4] Clinical studies have shown it can improve symptoms of angina, increase coronary blood flow, and enhance cardiac function. [6, 9] It is being investigated in multiple clinical trials for its effects post-percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and to explore its underlying molecular mechanisms, which are thought to involve anti-inflammatory pathways like the suppression of TLR4/NF-κB and Wnt/β-catenin signaling. [10, 12, 14] The drug is approved in China and is included in the national medical insurance catalog. [3, 5]
