Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Huoxue Tongluo Qiwei Tang is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) decoction developed by researchers at the Beijing Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital, affiliated with Capital Medical University. It is specifically formulated for the treatment of diabetic erectile dysfunction (DIED). The formula is based on the TCM therapeutic principles of "promoting blood circulation and dredging collaterals" (Huoxue Tongluo) to address the underlying vascular and neurological damage caused by chronic hyperglycemia. Pharmacological studies indicate that the decoction works by improving endothelial function in the penile corpus cavernosum, primarily through the upregulation of the nitric oxide-cyclic guanosine monophosphate (NO-cGMP) signaling pathway. It has been shown to increase the expression of endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) and neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS), while potentially reducing oxidative stress and inhibiting fibrotic factors like TGF-beta1, thereby restoring erectile capacity in diabetic models.
