Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Huqi formula is a **traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) prescription** developed for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). It is composed of six herbal ingredients: *Viscum coloratum*, *Astragalus membranaceus*, *Salvia miltiorrhiza*, *Oldenlandia diffusa*, *Curcuma phaeocaulis*, and *Phyllanthus urinaria*. The formula has shown clinical effectiveness in HCC, operating by **inhibiting the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway and modulating the tumor immune microenvironment**, particularly by enhancing T cell infiltration. Mechanistically, the formula induces apoptosis in HCC cells by downregulating phosphorylated PI3K, AKT, and mTOR expression. The most abundant identified compound is salvianolic acid B, thought to interact with PI3K. Preclinical studies demonstrated that Huqi formula improves liver function, reduces tissue damage, suppresses tumor growth, and potentiates the efficacy of PD-1 immune checkpoint blockade therapy. Safety assessments suggested a favorable toxicity profile[1][3][4].
