Huqi San

Huqi San (HQS) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal preparation composed of eight medicinal herbs, including notably *Viscum coloratum* (Hujisheng) and *Astragalus membranaceus* (Huangqi). It is primarily utilized in the context of hepatology and oncology. Preclinical research indicates that HQS can evoke colonic anion secretion by increasing the expression of the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) and modulate the expression of various bile transporters, suggesting therapeutic potential for cholestasis and jaundice. Clinically, Huqi San is used as an adjuvant therapy for primary liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma), particularly when combined with transarterial chemoembolization (TACE). In this setting, it has been shown to improve T-lymphocyte subsets, enhance immune function, improve quality of life (as measured by KPS scores), and prolong survival in patients.
