The HUVEC vaccine is an experimental cancer immunotherapy composed of glutaraldehyde-fixed human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). It is designed as an anti-angiogenesis therapeutic cancer vaccine, aiming to induce immune responses against tumor vasculature by targeting antigens shared between proliferating tumor endothelium and normal vascular endothelium. The approach seeks to inhibit tumor growth by disrupting the formation of new blood vessels necessary for tumor survival and expansion. Clinical studies have evaluated its use in patients with recurrent glioblastoma, where it was administered via intradermal injection and demonstrated disease control with minimal adverse effects aside from delayed-type hypersensitivity-like skin reactions at the injection site[6][1][9]. Preclinical research has also explored combinations with other immunotherapies to enhance antitumor efficacy[8][9].
