Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Huzhang Qingmai Yin (虎杖清脉饮) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) compound formula developed by Professor Xi Jiuyi, a renowned vascular disease expert in Shanghai. It is used clinically for conditions classified as "heat stagnation and toxin accumulation with obstructed collaterals" in TCM, particularly for cerebral small vessel disease and chronic cerebral ischemia. The formula is reported to improve cognitive function and modulate gut microbiota diversity in animal models of chronic cerebral ischemia[1][2]. Its mechanism involves regulating the abundance of specific gut bacteria genera such as Akkermansia, Coprobacillus, Parabacteroides, Erysipelatoclostridium, Turicibacter, Allobaculum, and Eubacterium_xylanophilum_group[1]. The main herbal ingredient is Polygonum cuspidatum (虎杖), known for its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antithrombotic effects and ability to improve microcirculation[3][4][5]. Huzhang Qingmai Yin acts through multiple pharmacological pathways including anti-inflammation and vascular protection.
