hV01 is an engineered oncolytic vaccinia virus designed to express recombinant human interleukin-21 (IL-21). Developed by Hangzhou Kangwanda Pharmaceutical Technology, the agent is intended for the treatment of advanced malignant solid tumors. The therapeutic strategy utilizes the natural ability of the vaccinia virus to selectively replicate within and lyse tumor cells (oncolysis) while simultaneously delivering the IL-21 cytokine directly to the tumor microenvironment. IL-21 is a pleiotropic cytokine that plays a critical role in enhancing the proliferation and effector functions of T cells and natural killer (NK) cells, thereby promoting a robust and systemic anti-tumor immune response. hV01 is currently being evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials to assess its safety, tolerability, and preliminary efficacy in patients with refractory solid tumors.
