Overview
Hwangryun pharmacoacupuncture is a distilled herbal medicine extract developed by Jaseng Hospital of Korean Medicine. It is derived from *Coptis chinensis* (Hwangryun) and is administered via injection into specific acupoints, a practice known as pharmacoacupuncture. This modality combines traditional acupuncture techniques with the pharmacological effects of herbal extracts. In a Phase 3 clinical trial (NCT02196129), it was used as a control treatment to assess the immediate pain-relieving efficacy of Sinbaro-3 in patients suffering from moderate to severe low back pain associated with herniated intervertebral discs. The treatment protocol involves the administration of 1cc of the distilled extract across six acupoints at the site of pain.
